Training Success at NWH

Training Success at NWH

In the year 2019, The NWH Group, has invested almost £175k in staff training and welfare throughout the business.

This year already, many staff are being supported through a variety of training schemes including transport managers Kevin Logue (Dundee) and Kris Henderson (Dumfries) achieving Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) qualifications; along with Allan Kane, General Manager of Waste and Ricky Ray, Compliance Director, achieving the NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety. Allan achieved the qualification with distinction, and Ricky is now progressing towards the next level up, a NEBOSH National Diploma.

Lisa Boyd, Head of HR at NWH Group, said: “We’re delighted about these recent training achievements. As a business, we invest significantly in training our team with the goal of employing the most skilled and highly trained staff in our industry. This means we can provide our customers with the best possible service as well as continually enriching and improving the experience of our team.

“NEBOSH provides internationally recognised qualifications in health, safety and well-being in the workplace environment which is a high priority in our day to day business operations. Equally, it’s important for those responsible for managing the driver teams to have a strong understanding of current legislation and its operational impact all Transport Managers are professional qualified and hold the relevant certification with a CPC.  This ensures our legislative and regulatory compliance is understood throughout the business.

Our strategy for continuous improvement and staff training within the business ensures our employees are well prepared for success.”

Allan Kane, General Manager at NWH Group said: “The NEBOSH training was challenging but enjoyable. The course provided me with a good depth of knowledge and practical skills to put into practice on a day-to-day basis, and lead my team to deliver their jobs with compliance, health and safety at the forefront. Both NWH and the training provider GTG supported me throughout the course and examination process which ensured I was in a strong position from the outset.

“There are a number of opportunities for development at the NWH Group, from entry level staff through to senior management, and it is encouraging to see a strong uptake from across the business.”

The NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is the gold standard in health and safety qualifications, and demonstrates organisational commitment to health and safety.

The Transport Manager CPC is designed for transport managers and owner drivers, providing the basic knowledge to be named as a competent person on the company’s operator’s licence. The qualification covers a broad range of topics including business and company law, health and safety, operator licensing, financial management, access to the market, technical standards and aspects of operation.

To ensure consistently high-quality training across the business, NWH Group partners with GTG Training as one of the UK's most innovative, experienced and qualified training establishments.
