The NWH Group partners with Unique Assembly for Edinburgh’s Christmas Market

The NWH Group partners with Unique Assembly for Edinburgh’s Christmas Market

We are delighted to announce that we have been selected as the exclusive waste management partner for Unique Assembly’s production of Edinburgh's Christmas for the third consecutive year!

In 2022, Unique Assembly won the contract to revive Edinburgh’s beloved Christmas Market, and we were honoured to be their chosen waste management provider. Our longstanding four-year collaboration as the waste management partner for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with Assembly Festival laid the successful groundwork for this partnership. In 2023, we were proud to extend our services to support Unique Assembly, formed by Assembly Festival and Unique Events to create memorable, sustainable events. Now, in 2024, we’re excited to continue our involvement in Edinburgh’s cherished winter traditions, including the Christmas Markets and the Hogmanay Torchlight Procession.

Over our four-year partnership, we’ve achieved substantial progress in waste management and recycling. In the 2023/24 period alone, we collected and diverted 135 tonnes of general waste, 21 tonnes of glass, and 18 tonnes of Dry Mixed Recycling—showing a significant improvement from the 2022/23 totals of 98 tonnes of general waste, 18 tonnes of glass, and 11.5 tonnes of Dry Mixed Recycling. This growth reflects the strength of our collaboration and our ongoing commitment to sustainable practices.

Lindsey Dyer, Unique Assembly’s Exclusive Account Manager at The NWH Group, expressed her enthusiasm for the ongoing collaboration, saying: "We’re thrilled to continue our partnership with Unique Assembly for Edinburgh's Christmas celebrations. Being part of such an iconic event, year after year, allows us to showcase our commitment to sustainable waste management while supporting Edinburgh’s winter traditions. Our team is dedicated to helping make this season’s festivities memorable and environmentally responsible for everyone who attends.”

Starting November 17th, Edinburgh’s Christmas will once again transform the city center into a magical wonderland. To meet the demands of multiple and growing event sites, we will provide services for all four waste streams: general waste, dry mixed recycling, glass, and food waste.

Collection will occur multiple times daily from locations across the city, including East Princes Street Gardens, home to the traditional Christmas market and food stalls; West Princes Street Gardens, featuring family-friendly festive rides; George Street, with the Scottish Christmas Fair and Ice Rink; and St Andrew Square, where visitors can meet Santa and enjoy Santa's Stories sessions.

We’re thrilled to once again support this magical experience for Edinburgh!
