The NWH Group bolsters commitment to Health and Wellbeing of its' employees

With more than 30,000 deaths a year in the UK from cardiac arrest out with the hospital environment, and the survival rate of these cardiac arrests being less than one in ten, the NWH group have committed to installing defibrillators in each of its 8 depots across Scotland and Northern England.

The NWH Group are fiercely committed to the health and well-being of its employees and have released on average one new employee health and wellbeing initiative per month over the last year. These initiatives include the introduction of Mental Health first aiders, Training courses for all management teams on mental health and free flu vaccinations for all employees to name just a few.

With the overwhelming stats around cardiac arrest in the UK, the NWH Group have chosen to prioritise the installation of defibrillators as the next initiative, having now installed the first device in the depot with the highest ratio of employees the Group are targeting to complete the roll-out commitment in 12 months.

Information from the British Heart Foundation suggests that Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA) Cardiac arrest is a critical medical emergency, where the heart stops pumping blood around the body and unless treated immediately, it leads to death within minutes. with more than 30,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests (OHCAs) in the UK each year, the overall survival rate in the UK being less than 1 in 10,  every one minute without cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillation reduces the chance of survival by up to 10 per cent.

With the estimation that public and workplace access to defibrillators (PADs) are available in less than 10 per cent of OHCAs The NWH Group are committed to improving these access stats for employees.
