NWH reaches final stage of Director of the Year Awards

 

The NWH Group is pleased to announce that CEO Mark Williams has been shortlisted in two categories at this years’ Institute of Directors, Director of the Year Awards: Family Business Director of the Year and overall Director of The Year, in the large business category.

The Director of the Year Awardscelebrate individuals’ business accomplishments in 2017, and a shortlist of 37 Scottish business leaders will now compete for awards across nine key director categories and five regional categories. The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony which takes place at the Crowne Plaza Glasgow on Thursday 22nd March 2018.  

Mark Williams said: “It’s great news to have reached the final stages at the IoD Director the Year Awards. Our success must be attributed to a real team effort, and my thanks go to all of our fantastic staff, customers and suppliers who have helped us to achieve so much in recent years. We are all aiming to make a difference to the environment in which we operate, and I’m pleased that our efforts have been recognised.”

Mark joined the business in 1991, and by 2005 he was leading the buyout of his father and uncle. One of the main strategic objectives for the last five years has been to safeguard the NWH business and achieve growth through diversification. This has been achieved by securing customers in new markets, growth in new geographical locations and through several strategic acquisitions.  

Under Mark’s leadership, there has been a real shift in strategic leadership with a focus on providing clarity to the team on organisational goals and strategy, evolving a traditional family-led company to become a market leading, values-led organisation that is delivering long-term shareholder value. Environmental compliance has moved to top the agenda, with NWH actively advising customers on taking waste challenges further up the value chain.

The business is now well on its way to achieving its objective to become a £100m+ resource management business, and one that contributes considerably to Scotland and its economy. The Board has been professionalised with the appointment of non-executive directors and a highly experienced chairman, so NWH benefits from an excellent mix of family members, professionals and some key employees.
