Read Below to hear about our most recent beneficiaries...

We have recently provided funding to three out of our chosen five beneficiaries that the voluntary committee selected from the most recent NWH in the Community Applications.

  • Lothians Veterans Centre
  • Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland
  • It’s Good 2 Give

We as the NWH Group are delighted to announce more information about which charities we have chosen to help and what our funding will provide for each one. These chosen charities provide support and care for different worthy causes and that is the reason as to why they were selected as our beneficiaries.

Lothians Veterans Centre

LVC is a Veterans’ drop-in centre which is located in Dalkeith. This centre is designed to meet the needs of any ex-servicemen or woman who are experiencing challenges in their personal transition back to civilian life.

We funded LVC with £1000 to provide high quality training courses to enhance the employment prospects of Veterans experiencing barriers to employment, a cause we believe is very important. The two courses will be the IOSH Working Safely course which will take place in December 2016 and also the Manual Handling/Fire Marshall which will take place in February 2017.

Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland

Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland supports survivors and carers through specialist services such as local support groups, free advice line and specialist heart nurses. The charity also aims to fund medical research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of chest, heart and stroke conditions.

We funded Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland with £675 sponsorship as Gordon Rae took part in the Forth Rail Bridge Abseil. Our sponsorship money will go towards the CHSS Cardiac and Respiratory Support Service and their invaluable befriending service, a very worthy cause.

It's Good 2 Give

It’s Good 2 Give is a local charity that supports cancer patients and their families in practical ways. The charity provides snacks for patients and parents in the cancer ward at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, parent packs for those staying in with their children and building a retreat for families in Scotland.

We funded this charity with £1500 which will go towards bicycles and helmets for the Ripple Retreat, a place where patients and their families can visit for some time away. We are delighted that we are able to ensure that the children and adults will be able to use the bikes and will be safe whilst staying at the resort.
