The NWH Group, as it is known today, is now in the second generation of ownership, The Group credits its outstanding success to maintaining its family values, having the ability to follow their own passions and playing to their strengths, whilst maintaining a strong work ethic and bringing together an enviable mix of skills and personalities within the family.
Mark Williams, Managing Director: the youngest of Williams' brothers, today leads the business having taken over the reins from his father. The most visionary and ambitious of all, he is financially astute, a strategic thinker and thrives on driving the business forward.
David Williams, an original founder of the business, David remains to fully support his sons, providing his guidance and benefit of years of experience, whilst enjoying being back driving his truck and overseeing the day to day activities of the drivers out on the road.
Craig Williams, Operations Director: the eldest and most operationally-minded son who has his finger on the pulse of on the ground operations. Having originally started as a driver, today he leads a team of 280 empoyees.
Richard Williams, Administration Director: with an eagle eye for detail, he knows the inner workings of the business inside out and leads the back office function, overseeing, payroll, invoicing and IT.
Lisa Boyd, HR Director: Lisa joined the business following a 20 year career with Standard Life. Knowing in her heart that she always want to be part of the business, she joined the company when she saw the corporate potential start to develop. Lisa has been instrumental in developing the HR function and driving the values-led culture.
Wullie Boyd, Workshop Manager: Lisa’s husband joined the business from Volvo in 2005 and has overseen the growth of the workshop from a two man operation to a 24/7 service employing 16 staff.
Craig’s son Patrick and Lisa’s son Fraser are the most recent family recruits. Both are involved with the NWH apprenticeship scheme.
What they all have in common is a real passion for success – to excel in their chosen field, experience built from learning their ‘trade’ and the ability to recognise their key strengths and how best to work together to achieve great things.
To best complement the NWH family team, attracting, retaining and developing the best people is key and to that end we live by our organisational values: safety, compliance, customer service and teamwork. These values guide our everyday behaviour and way of doing business.
The somewhat infectious family spirit at NWH Group has also drawn in other local families. John Ray, Yard Foreman and Driver, whose father, brother, son and two nephews are also employed by NWH, has worked for the company for 21 years. He said: “NWH provides excellent opportunities for employment. Not only is the company a strong local employer, but the apprenticeship scheme also offers invaluable learning for young people. It’s a real people business – they are friendly, down to earth and trust you to do your job well. It’s what a family business should be and my 21 years service speaks for itself.”
